November’s Meeting Checklist

1. Because Quilters Care—Please bring your polar fleece hats and scarves for donation to the Upper Darby Homeless Shelter.  Directions for the hats and scarves are included below.

2. Calling anyone who has made a Maggie Walker quilt—Maggie is our guest speaker and we would love to have a show and tell featuring all of the quilts our members have made over the years using her beautiful patterns. 

3. Fat Quarter—Polka Dots on Pastels.  Fat Quarter = 18” x 22”

4. Block of the Month—HO—HO—HO.

5. Library Reminder—Please remember to return any library book.

6. Kids’ Quilts—We always accept finished quilts or fabric donations.

7. Soldier Quilts for Quilts of Valor—Red, White and Blue quilts always accepted and donated to Quilts of Valor for wounded soldiers.

8. ACME register tapes.

9. Your name tag.

10. Parking Sign—do not get towed by parking illegally!

Polar Fleece Hat and Scarf Project

From one yard of polar fleece cut:

                 2—8 inch strips from selvage to selvage

                 1—13” strip from selvage to selvage (this will be cut to the desired length for the hats)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scarf Directions:

· Remove selvage from all pieces

· Fringe edges to your liking ( I like the fringe to be about 4 inches long and 1/2 inch wide)

Hat Directions:

· Cut the 13” strip to measure anywhere from 21—24 inches.

· Fold under the long edge 2 inches.

· Sew about 1/4 “ along the edge to secure the band.

· Fold right sides together and sew side seams with a 1/2” seam allowance.

· For hat style 1—Take a 3 –4 strips of assorted color fleece, bunch them and place the middle of the strips over the side seam allowance.  Tack in place.  Gather the hat and tie the fleece strips.

· For hat style 2—With the wrong side out, fold the tube so that the seam is in the middle.  Stitch across the top with a 1/2” seam allowance.  Turn right side out, pushing out the points.  Fold the points to the middle of the crown and tack in place.
